Bath Remodeling Project Considerations

November 8, 2021

If you are considering remodeling your bathroom, you are not alone.  Bathroom remodels are among the most popular remodeling projects.  And while a well-done bathroom remodel can improve the look and functionality of your bathroom as well as increase the value of your home, there are lots of things to consider before launching into a full-scale remodel.  Here are a few tips that should help make sure your bathroom remodel is successful, stress free and budget friendly.

Basic Tips to Consider

Leslie Eiler of CRD Design Build posted an excellent article on March 16, 2020, entitled “10 Essential Bathroom Remodeling Tips.” We are listing her tips below, but we encourage you to read her entire article as she has included many related links that you will find quite helpful.  We have included the link to her article at the end of this article.  Here are her 10 tips:

1. Create a budget

2. Choose the type of bathroom

3. Develop a bathroom layout

4. Decide whether you want a bathtub

5. Consider lighting

6. Don’t overlook ventilation

7. Add a little luxury

8. Choose the durable bathroom materials

9. Adding a bathroom

10. Think about accessibility now, before you need it

Effect on Home Value

In our introduction, we mentioned that bathroom remodels can add to the value of your home.  In the article by Leslie Eiler that we referenced above, she noted approximately a 70% return rate, especially when the bathroom to be remodeled is quite old.

Budgeting

In a May 26, 2020, blog on KBR Kitchen & Bath entitled “How to Properly Budget a Bathroom Remodel,” they list six areas of consideration.  We have listed those considerations below but have also included a link to their blog at the end of this article and encourage you to read the entire article for more specific information.  Here are the considerations they list:

1. Set Realistic Goals

2. Understanding the Labor Costs

3. To DIY or Not to DIY

4. Factor In Some Unexpected Expenses

5. Explore the Cost of Materials

6. Breaking Down the Budget for Specific Items

Best Time of Year for a Bathroom Remodel

According to American Bath Enterprises, Inc., in an article posted September 15, 2019, summer is the best time to schedule a bathroom remodel.  They cite nice weather and better contractor availability as the two major reasons.  So, if you are planning a bathroom remodel and plan to use a contractor, summer seems to be your best bet.

Why Consider Hiring a Professional Contractor

Unless you are well qualified to tackle the job yourself, you may want to give serious consideration to hiring a professional.  Four important considerations include:

– The structural integrity of your home

– Securing the proper permits

– The knowledge a professional contractor has regarding quality, cost-effective products.

– A professional contractor will likely save you time and money in the long run

As we noted at the beginning of this article, there are lots of things to consider when undertaking a bathroom remodel.  We hope these tips have given you the information you need to plan a stress free bathroom remodeling project.
